Meet the rising star Sonam C Chhabra

Recently our team met the very talented and hardworking Sonam C Chhabra, here is the extract of our conversation with her

Tell us something about your journey?
It’s been a very interesting journey so far. I’ve always been a very creative person who believes in dreams and more than that, making them come true. Though it looks like a piece of cake to get up on stage, talk and go home, But to be ‘Suthradhaar’, you have to be equipped with general knowledge and the ability to take on a curveball whenever it comes along. And there will be many I believe. But I love challenges and that’s one of the reasons I am here today.

What attracted you to begin a career as an actor?
Though l have always been happy on stage, I feel acting is a natural progression. I have been practising theatre at Mandi House for years and worked in several plays. I didn’t have a plan as such but acting happened to me and now I am hooked.

How did you get your first break?
I was hosting an awards show where the director of our movie Kirket spotted me. We exchanged pleasantries and he asked me to audition for a role of an Anchor in his upcoming venture. I went home and forgot about the conversation till I got a call from the production team a few days later. I flew to Mumbai for the auditions. Since anchoring comes naturally to me the audition was a cakewalk.

Can you share a brief about your role?
I play the role of a news reporter in the movie which somehow relates to my real life profession. And it was a great experience as I got to discover a lot of hidden potential and talent in the city of Bihar, their enthusiasm towards the game of cricket. Cricket and Bollywood are two favourites of our country; I don’t think I could have made my debut with any movie better than this.

Who is your biggest inspiration/ Role model?
I’ve always looked upto some really inspiring women who are undoubtedly doing the best job in their respective field- I love Ellen Degeneres and Oprah Winfrey .In India, I consider Priyanka Chopra as my role model.

If given an opportunity which actor you’ll love to work with?
It’s a dream to work with Irfan Khan and Radhika Apte. They are marvellous actors.
